spectfilter~.mxo object for MaxMSP on Intel Mac
spectfilter~.maxhelp patcher for Max5 on Intel Mac

Installation:

Put spectfilter~.mxo in the Cycling '74 folder of your Max application. It can be in the msp-externals subfolder, but if you do not want to mix objects with the official distribution, you can create a separate subfolder within the Cycling '74 folder and put spectfilter~ there.

spectfilter~.maxhelp must be somewhere in the Cycling '74 folder as well. It can be in the msp-help subfolder, but again this is not obligatory.

Otherwise, the object and/or helpfile can be in another folder known by the Max application (select "options > file preferences > +" to add the path of a folder).

MaxMSP traces objects and patchers within it's known paths at startup, so you need to (re)start MaxMSP to use the newly added spectfilter~.mxo object and spectfilter~.maxhelp patcher.

If all went well, you can now use spectfilter~ by typing it's name in an object box. No initialisation arguments are needed. Spectfilter.maxhelp can be opened by doubleclicking, but it will also open as a regular help file on option-clicking an initialised spectfilter~ object.

For Max 4.6 users:

spectfilter~.mxo is tested with Max5, but should work with Max4.6 as well. spectfilter~.maxhelp is an extensive demo patch, showing filter effects in static and modulated presets. The patch is created with Max5. If you are on an older Max version, you can not use the .maxhelp patch. Visit www.katjaas.nl/spectfilter~/spectfilter~.html to see how the object is used in a patch. Consider downloading the standalone application spectfilter~demo.app, which does the same demo presets as spectfilter.maxhelp.
